S&P 500 annual cap rate

10% cap on S&P 500

An accumulation-focused fixed indexed annuity from A- rated Aspida Life, offered in two chassis (a shorter five-year and a longer ten-year), built around an S&P 500 annual point-to-point cap plus participation-rate alternatives on the S&P 500, Nasdaq-100, and three proprietary indexes, with no lifetime-income rider in the design.

1-year termAdvisorWorld + CANNEX data

Best fit

Buyers who want tax-deferred accumulation from an A- rated carrier, want the choice between a shorter-liquidity five-year chassis and a longer ten-year chassis that prices the same indexes at higher caps, and who want a single contract that can express either a recognizable S&P 500 cap or higher-participation exposure to proprietary indexes.

Product analyst notes

How to think about this contract

Why it can stand out

  • Pure accumulation design with no income rider attached — every basis point of crediting flows to account value rather than rider fees, and the contract is not loaded with an income story it cannot deliver.
  • Buyer chooses between two surrender chassis under the same contract — a shorter, more liquid five-year filing and a longer ten-year filing that prices the same index strategies at higher caps and participation rates.
  • Crediting menu pairs a recognizable S&P 500 annual point-to-point cap with a one- and two-year participation-rate alternative, plus cap and participation strategies on the Nasdaq-100, Invesco QQQ Growth, and three proprietary indexes — so the same contract can express either a like-for-like S&P comparison or a higher-participation alternative.
  • Standard accumulation liquidity package is all here — 10% annual free-withdrawal allowance plus nursing-home, terminal-illness, and RMD surrender waivers — rather than buried in a brochure.

What to confirm

  • There is no lifetime-income rider on this contract in the live data. Do not pitch Synergy Choice Max as a guaranteed lifetime payout product — the carrier sells a separate income-focused filing for that purpose.
  • Several of the index strategies use proprietary, less-recognizable indexes (Goldman Sachs Grand Prix, Citi Aria, Goldman Sachs Lexicon Long Short). Their participation rates can look high in absolute terms but are not directly comparable to an S&P 500 cap — each strategy has to be evaluated on its own historical behavior.
  • The longer-surrender chassis is a 10-year commitment with a market value adjustment on early surrender on top of the surrender charge — buyers who may need full liquidity inside that window pay a real penalty even with the 10% annual free withdrawal.
  • Filed in 49 jurisdictions but NOT available in New York or North Carolina — confirm state availability before recommending to buyers in those two states.

Not ideal for

Buyers who need a contractually guaranteed lifetime withdrawal rate (no rider here — see the carrier's Synergy Choice Income filing instead), an enhanced death benefit with a rollup or step-up, or residency in New York or North Carolina where this contract is not filed.

Income riders

Accumulation-focused — no income rider

This contract is designed for tax-deferred accumulation, not guaranteed lifetime income. No GLWB rider was returned because none is part of the contract design — compare against other accumulation FIAs on cap, participation rate, and surrender terms rather than lifetime income.

Common questions about Synergy Choice Max

Can I lose money in Synergy Choice Max?

A negative index return by itself does not reduce the contract's account value: Synergy Choice Max credits 0% — the floor — for that indexed period. The account value can still decrease from applicable rider fees, Performance Rate Rider or other strategy charges, administrative charges, withdrawals, surrender charges, or other contract-specific deductions. In years with no credited interest, those deductions can reduce the account value. Up to 10% of your value can be withdrawn each year without a charge; withdrawals above the penalty-free amount during the surrender period can incur a surrender charge.

When can I access my money without a surrender charge?

Up to 10% of your account value each year is penalty-free. The surrender period runs 10 years; after that you reach full liquidity. The Liquidity tab of the analyzer shows the year-by-year surrender charge.

How do Synergy Choice Max's crediting strategies compare?

Use "Compare against" in the analyzer to overlay another current Synergy Choice Max strategy on the same premium, age, years, and hypothetical index path. The control labels the strategy type, rate, index, and context so caps, participation rates, triggers, spreads, and fixed-account choices are not treated as interchangeable.

Crediting design

How the interest-crediting choices are framed

Synergy Choice Max currently shows 48 distinct indexed or fixed crediting choices across 80 current rate listings, including S&P 500 Index, with 22 volatility-controlled index options grouped separately. These choices matter because caps, participation rates, fixed accounts, spreads, renewal terms, and fee-bearing rider variants are different mechanics and should not be ranked as one simple rate list.

  • S&P 500 Index: 9.5% annual cap
  • S&P 500 Index: 10% annual cap
  • S&P 500 Index: 8.75% annual cap
  • S&P 500 Index: 9.25% annual cap

Liquidity terms

Why access rules deserve as much attention as rates

A fixed indexed annuity can preserve more control than an income-only contract, but access is still governed by the surrender schedule, free-withdrawal terms, and waiver language. Those details are where many product comparisons become more meaningful than a simple rate list.

  • 10%/yr free withdrawal
  • 10 surrender years
  • Nursing home waiver
  • RMD waiver
  • Terminal illness waiver

Verification note

Use carrier materials as term evidence, then confirm the current version

Carrier materials such as 30019-Synergy-Choice-Max-Brochure.pdf help explain the contract language behind the data on this page; the latest document activity we see is Apr 8, 2026. For the current brochure, rate sheet, or specimen contract, confirm the state-specific version with the carrier or a licensed financial professional.

  • Rates and rider terms can vary by state and issue age
  • Carrier guarantees depend on claims-paying ability
  • Current contract forms should be confirmed before purchase
