Assumptions: illustrative — applies Max Growth Bonus's published cap rate (7.25% on S&P 500 Index) to a standard benchmark hypothetical index path (~5.4%/yr average, including down years) with a 0% floor over 20 years. Growth starts from a bonus-adjusted illustrative account value: $100,000 premium + $8,000 premium bonus (8%) = $108,000. Bonus vesting and withdrawal treatment follow the contract. S&P 500 cap rate

7.25% cap on S&P 500

An accumulation-focused fixed indexed annuity with an unusually short four-year surrender, a premium bonus on a long vesting schedule, and a recognizable S&P 500 cap alongside proprietary participation strategies, from a B++ A.M. Best-rated carrier.

Best fit

Accumulation-focused buyers who want a recognizable S&P 500 cap inside a short-surrender FIA, value an up-front premium bonus as long-term balance leverage rather than near-term liquidity, and are comfortable with a B++ A.M. Best carrier in exchange for a shorter lockup than most bonus FIAs offer.

Product analyst notes

How to think about this contract

Why it can stand out

  • Four-year surrender schedule is unusually short for a bonus FIA — most premium-bonus contracts on this site run seven to ten years to amortize the bonus cost, so a four-year lockup gives a buyer materially earlier full liquidity than the bonus-FIA norm.
  • A published premium bonus is credited up front to the account value, giving day-one balance leverage on every dollar of premium before any index credit is applied — read the bonus rate directly on this page rather than from a sales brochure.
  • Crediting menu includes a recognizable S&P 500 annual point-to-point cap, so this contract offers at least one like-for-like comparison point against other FIAs on this site rather than only proprietary participation strategies.
  • Three S&P 500 crediting cadences are offered on the same contract — an annual point-to-point cap, a performance-trigger declared rate, and a full-participation strategy — so a buyer who wants S&P exposure has three distinct ways to take it inside one allocation.
  • Free-withdrawal allowance, the full surrender ladder, the market-value-adjustment flag, and the nursing-home waiver are visible directly on this page rather than gated behind a sales brochure.

What to confirm

  • The premium bonus is on a long vesting schedule that extends well past the surrender period. The published vesting table only credits a fraction of the bonus during the four-year surrender window and does not fully vest until year ten — read the vesting schedule on this page before treating the bonus as day-one money you can walk away with.
  • Bonus FIAs typically pay for the bonus through a lower base cap, a higher spread, or a lower participation rate than the same carrier's non-bonus product. Compare the S&P 500 cap and participation rates on this contract against a non-bonus FIA before assuming the bonus is free money.
  • Surrender charges apply on amounts above the free-withdrawal allowance for the first four contract years and a market-value adjustment also applies. The MVA can magnify a surrender loss in a rising-rate environment — confirm with the carrier how the MVA is computed before any planned partial surrender.
  • American Life & Security is rated B++ by A.M. Best, which is below the A- threshold many buyers and advisors use as a minimum. The carrier-strength view on this page is from a recognized agency, but a B++ carrier is a different risk tier than an A-rated one and should be evaluated explicitly.
  • The standard death benefit on this contract pays cash surrender value, not account value or a rolled-up income base — heirs receive what a buyer would receive on a non-penalty surrender, which can be materially lower than an account-value-based death benefit on a competing contract.
  • There is no income rider on this contract in the current data, so this is not the product to compare against guaranteed-lifetime-withdrawal FIAs — its job is accumulation plus an up-front bonus, not contractually guaranteed lifetime income.

Not ideal for

Buyers who need a contractually guaranteed lifetime withdrawal rate from a GLWB rider, expect a premium bonus to be fully their money on day one, require an A-rated or higher carrier as a minimum, want an account-value-based death benefit, or read 'Max Growth Bonus' as a promise of income — none of those are what this contract is built to deliver.

Accumulation-focused contract

Current CANNEX information identifies this product as tax-deferred accumulation. Compare cap, participation rate, fees, liquidity, and surrender terms; use a separate payout-focused contract when guaranteed payout mechanics are required.

Common questions about Max Growth Bonus

Can I lose money in Max Growth Bonus?

A negative index return by itself does not reduce the contract's account value: Max Growth Bonus credits 0% — the floor — for that indexed period. The account value can still decrease from applicable rider fees, Performance Rate Rider or other strategy charges, administrative charges, withdrawals, surrender charges, or other contract-specific deductions. In years with no credited interest, those deductions can reduce the account value. Up to 5% of your value can be withdrawn each year without a charge; withdrawals above the penalty-free amount during the surrender period can incur a surrender charge.

When can I access my money without a surrender charge?

Up to 5% of your account value each year is penalty-free. The scheduled surrender charges run 10 years; after that the surrender-charge schedule ends. Bonus vesting, market value adjustments when applicable, and other contract rules can still affect the amount available. The Liquidity tab of the analyzer shows the year-by-year surrender charge.

How do Max Growth Bonus's crediting strategies compare?

Use "Compare against" in the analyzer to overlay another current Max Growth Bonus strategy on the same premium, age, years, and hypothetical index path. The control labels the strategy type, rate, index, and context so caps, participation rates, triggers, spreads, and fixed-account choices are not treated as interchangeable.

Crediting design

How the interest-crediting choices are framed

Max Growth Bonus currently shows 13 distinct indexed or fixed crediting choices across 15 displayed rate entries, including S&P 500 Index, with 6 volatility-controlled index options grouped separately. These choices matter because caps, participation rates, fixed accounts, spreads, renewal terms, and fee-bearing rider variants are different mechanics and should not be ranked as one simple rate list.

  • S&P 500 Index: 7.25% annual cap
  • S&P 500 Index: 8.5% annual point-to-point cap
  • S&P 500 Index: 8% annual point-to-point cap
  • S&P 500 Index: 100% annual participation rate

Liquidity terms

Why access rules deserve as much attention as rates

A fixed indexed annuity can preserve more control than an income-only contract, but access is still governed by the surrender schedule, free-withdrawal terms, and waiver language. Those details are where many product comparisons become more meaningful than a simple rate list.

  • 5%/yr free withdrawal
  • 10 surrender years
  • Nursing home waiver

Verification note

Use carrier materials as term evidence, then confirm the current version

This page uses the current structured product information for the contract. For the current brochure, rate sheet, or specimen contract, confirm the state-specific version with the carrier or a licensed financial professional.

  • Rates and rider terms can vary by state and issue age
  • Carrier guarantees depend on claims-paying ability
  • Current contract forms should be confirmed before purchase
