10.1% cap on S&P 500

A ten-year-surrender fixed indexed annuity from an A+ rated North American, built for accumulation through an S&P 500 annual point-to-point cap, an S&P 500 monthly-sum cap, and participation strategies on Morgan Stanley, Fidelity, S&P MARC, and Goldman Sachs proprietary indexes, with no income rider, no premium bonus, and a published annual free-withdrawal allowance.

Best fit

Buyers committed to a ten-year FIA deferral who want a recognizable S&P 500 cap as their primary growth engine, value the flexibility to also use monthly-sum or participation crediting on the same contract, and do not need a guaranteed-lifetime-income rider.

Product analyst notes

How to think about this contract

Why it can stand out

  • Ten-year surrender paired with a competitive S&P 500 annual point-to-point cap — among the higher absolute S&P caps published in North American's accumulation-FIA lineup for this surrender length.
  • Strategy menu blends a recognizable S&P 500 annual cap, an S&P 500 monthly-sum cap, and participation strategies on proprietary volatility-controlled indexes — so buyers can pick the crediting mechanic (cap vs. monthly-sum vs. participation) that best fits their market view.
  • Published annual free-withdrawal allowance is shown on the page alongside the ten-year surrender ladder, so penalty-free liquidity is explicit rather than buried in the brochure.
  • Carrier financial-strength is rated by more than one agency on this page, so the strength view is not a single-source read.

What to confirm

  • This contract is NOT a guaranteed-lifetime-withdrawal product. The income-rider list on the live feed is empty and there is no PIV income mechanism — do not compare its lifetime-payout potential side-by-side with rider-led income FIAs.
  • The S&P 500 monthly-sum cap on this contract is sometimes marketed as if it were directly comparable to the annual cap; it is not. A monthly-sum cap caps each month's gain but does not cap monthly losses, so it can underperform an annual cap in years with mid-year volatility. Treat the annual point-to-point cap, not the monthly-sum cap, as the headline.
  • The higher participation rates on this contract sit on proprietary volatility-controlled indexes (Morgan Stanley Dynamic Global, Fidelity Multifactor Yield, S&P MARC, Goldman Sachs Equity TimeX) — their participation rates look strong in absolute terms but are not directly comparable to an S&P 500 cap. Evaluate each strategy on its own merits.
  • There is no premium bonus and no death-benefit roll-up on this contract — the death benefit is the standard accumulation contract value. The ten-year surrender does not buy you a bonus to offset the long lock-up.

Not ideal for

Buyers who need a GLWB income rider, want a shorter surrender commitment, expect a premium bonus to offset the long surrender term, or want a death-benefit roll-up — those are not what this contract is built to deliver.

Accumulation profile

Accumulation-focused contract

Current CANNEX product data marks this filing as tax-deferred accumulation. Compare cap, participation rate, fees, liquidity, and surrender terms; use a separate payout-focused contract when guaranteed payout mechanics are required.

Common questions about NAC VersaChoice 10

Can I lose money in NAC VersaChoice 10?

A negative index return by itself does not reduce the contract's account value: NAC VersaChoice 10 credits 0% — the floor — for that indexed period. The account value can still decrease from applicable rider fees, Performance Rate Rider or other strategy charges, administrative charges, withdrawals, surrender charges, or other contract-specific deductions. In years with no credited interest, those deductions can reduce the account value. Up to 10% of your value can be withdrawn each year without a charge; withdrawals above the penalty-free amount during the surrender period can incur a surrender charge.

When can I access my money without a surrender charge?

Up to 10% of your account value each year is penalty-free. The scheduled surrender charges run 10 years; after that the surrender-charge schedule ends. Bonus vesting, market value adjustments when applicable, and other contract rules can still affect the amount available. The Liquidity tab of the analyzer shows the year-by-year surrender charge.

How do NAC VersaChoice 10's crediting strategies compare?

Use "Compare against" in the analyzer to overlay another current NAC VersaChoice 10 strategy on the same premium, age, years, and hypothetical index path. The control labels the strategy type, rate, index, and context so caps, participation rates, triggers, spreads, and fixed-account choices are not treated as interchangeable.

Crediting design

How the interest-crediting choices are framed

NAC VersaChoice 10 currently shows 34 indexed or fixed crediting options, including S&P 500 Index, with 24 volatility-controlled index options grouped separately. These choices matter because caps, participation rates, fixed accounts, spreads, renewal terms, and fee-bearing rider variants are different mechanics and should not be ranked as one simple rate list.

  • S&P 500 Index: 10.1% annual cap
  • S&P 500 Index: 3% monthly cap
  • S&P 500 Index: 9.1% annual cap
  • S&P 500 Index: 2.7% monthly cap

Liquidity terms

Why access rules deserve as much attention as rates

A fixed indexed annuity can preserve more control than an income-only contract, but access is still governed by the surrender schedule, free-withdrawal terms, and waiver language. Those details are where many product comparisons become more meaningful than a simple rate list.

  • 10%/yr free withdrawal
  • 10 surrender years

Verification note

Use carrier materials as term evidence, then confirm the current version

Carrier materials such as 26351Z - NAC VersaChoice 10 Brochure.pdf help explain the contract language behind the data on this page; the latest document activity we see is Apr 24, 2026. For the current brochure, rate sheet, or specimen contract, confirm the state-specific version with the carrier or a licensed financial professional.

  • Rates and rider terms can vary by state and issue age
  • Carrier guarantees depend on claims-paying ability
  • Current contract forms should be confirmed before purchase
