Best annual point-to-point cap on the S&P 500

46% participation on S&P 500

The five-year-surrender member of the JourneyMark fixed indexed annuity family from Integrity Life (Western & Southern Financial Group) — an accumulation-focused S&P 500 cap-rate chassis with a fixed-rate bucket, a five-year declining surrender ladder, and standard NH/TI/RMD waivers from the live feed.

Best fit

Buyers who want a short-window fixed indexed annuity without an income rider, value an S&P 500 annual point-to-point cap as the headline rate, and prefer a five-year surrender commitment over the longer JourneyMark 7 or JourneyMark 10 surrender ladders on this carrier.

Product analyst notes

How to think about this contract

Why it can stand out

  • Shortest member of the JourneyMark family — five-year surrender period for buyers who want index-linked growth without committing principal to a seven- or ten-year lock-up, and the surrender ladder ends in the same year a typical MYGA-style guarantee period would.
  • S&P 500 annual point-to-point strategy on the menu, paired with a fixed-rate bucket — accumulation-focused growth on the most-recognized US large-cap index without an engineered-index detour.
  • Nursing-home, terminal-illness, and RMD surrender waivers visible on the live feed for unplanned-exit scenarios, sitting alongside an annual free-withdrawal allowance on top of the waived events.
  • Backed by Integrity Life Insurance Company, a Western & Southern Financial Group subsidiary, with carrier financial-strength views visible from multiple agencies on this page from the live feed.

What to confirm

  • No optional lifetime-income rider is filed on this five-year contract — buyers who want a guaranteed-lifetime-withdrawal rider from this family are looking at JourneyMark 7 or JourneyMark 10 on this carrier, where the live feed does publish an Expanse Rider.
  • Five-year free-withdrawal allowance is on the modest side of the FIA market — confirm the annual percentage on the live feed matches the buyer's expected income or partial-withdrawal needs before relying on it.
  • The contract carries a market-value adjustment on early surrenders beyond the free-withdrawal allowance — the adjustment can either help or hurt the surrender proceeds depending on the interest-rate environment at the time of withdrawal.
  • There is no premium bonus and no death-benefit roll-up on this contract — the contract is built for fixed-window index-linked growth, not legacy enhancement or upfront premium credit.

Not ideal for

Buyers who want a guaranteed-lifetime-withdrawal rider on this contract (JourneyMark 7 or JourneyMark 10 are the rider-equipped members of this family), buyers in New York (the JourneyMark family excludes New York on the live feed), buyers who want a premium bonus, or buyers who want a death-benefit roll-up.

Common questions about JourneyMark 5

Can I lose money in JourneyMark 5?

A negative index return by itself does not reduce the contract's account value: JourneyMark 5 credits 0% — the floor — for that indexed period. The account value can still decrease from applicable rider fees, Performance Rate Rider or other strategy charges, administrative charges, withdrawals, surrender charges, or other contract-specific deductions. In years with no credited interest, those deductions can reduce the account value. Up to 5% of your value can be withdrawn each year without a charge; withdrawals above the penalty-free amount during the surrender period can incur a surrender charge.

When can I access my money without a surrender charge?

Up to 5% of your account value each year is penalty-free. The scheduled surrender charges run 5 years; after that the surrender-charge schedule ends. Bonus vesting, market value adjustments when applicable, and other contract rules can still affect the amount available. The Liquidity tab of the analyzer shows the year-by-year surrender charge.

How do JourneyMark 5's crediting strategies compare?

Use "Compare against" in the analyzer to overlay another available JourneyMark 5 strategy on the same premium, age, years, and hypothetical index path. The control labels the strategy type, rate, index, and context so caps, participation rates, triggers, spreads, and fixed-account choices are not treated as interchangeable.

Crediting design

How the interest-crediting choices are framed

JourneyMark 5 currently shows 7 indexed or fixed crediting options, including S&P 500 Index and Fixed Account, with 5 volatility-controlled index options grouped separately. These choices matter because caps, participation rates, fixed accounts, spreads, renewal terms, and fee-bearing rider variants are different mechanics and should not be ranked as one simple rate list.

  • S&P 500 Index: 46% annual point-to-point participation rate
  • Fixed Account: 4.25% fixed account rate

Liquidity terms

Why access rules deserve as much attention as rates

A fixed indexed annuity can preserve more control than an income-only contract, but access is still governed by the surrender schedule, free-withdrawal terms, and waiver language. Those details are where many product comparisons become more meaningful than a simple rate list.

  • 5%/yr free withdrawal
  • 5 surrender years
  • Nursing home waiver
  • RMD waiver
  • Terminal illness waiver

Verification note

Use carrier materials as term evidence, then confirm the current version

Carrier materials such as Journey-Mark.pdf help explain the contract language behind the data on this page; the latest document activity we see is Apr 8, 2026. For the current brochure, rate sheet, or specimen contract, confirm the state-specific version with the carrier or a licensed financial professional.

  • Rates and rider terms can vary by state and issue age
  • Carrier guarantees depend on claims-paying ability
  • Current contract forms should be confirmed before purchase
