Surrender charges apply to withdrawals that exceed the Free Partial Withdrawal limits and follow a declining schedule based on the contract term. For example, a 3-year term features charges of 9%, 8%, and 7% in years one through three. Longer terms (up to 10 years) have proportionally extended schedules, concluding with as little as 0.50% in the final year. Additionally, a Market Value Adjustment (MVA) may apply to excess withdrawals during the surrender charge period. This MVA can be positive or negative depending on market conditions at the time of withdrawal. Waivers may be available in the event of terminal illness or nursing home confinement.

The Guaranty Rate Lock annuity is issued by Guaranty Income Life Insurance Company and provides a fixed rate of interest for a period selected by the policyholder at the time of purchase. There are no front-end loads or annual fees, so 100% of the premium starts working immediately. Upon completion of the selected term, options include renewal or converting the value into a retirement income stream. This annuity accommodates liquidity needs via free withdrawals and includes optional benefits like waivers for terminal illness or nursing home confinement. Withdrawals exceeding the free allowances may be subject to surrender charges and a Market Value Adjustment (MVA).

After the guarantee period ends, the policyholder can renew for another term or convert the value into a retirement income stream.

Full surrender value is the greater of Minimum Guaranteed Cash Value or Accumulated Value, less surrender charge and MVA. Minimum Guaranteed Cash Value is 87.5% of the premium, less withdrawals or premium taxes, accumulated at a nonforfeiture interest rate of 1%–3%.
