Upon the 7-year maturity, contracts automatically renew into a new 7-year term at Securian Financial’s then-current declared rate (not less than MGIR). Policyholders may also withdraw or annuitize their funds without penalty.

During the 7-year term, surrender value equals the accumulation value minus applicable surrender charges and MVA, but

Withdrawals in excess of free or waived amounts are subject to surrender charges that decline over time and reach 0% at the end of the schedule for the selected term. California uses the following surrender charge schedules by guarantee period.

SecureOption Choice (California) is a Single Premium Deferred Annuity (SPDA) funded with a one-time purchase payment, with no additional purchase payments permitted. At issue, the owner selects a 3-, 5-, 7-, or 9-year initial guarantee period, and the initial interest rate applies through the end of that selected period. Following the initial guaranteed period, renewal rates are declared in one-year guarantee periods. The contract supports access to funds through a minimum $250 withdrawal and includes an annual free-withdrawal feature equal to 10% (with RMD flexibility) while withdrawals above free/waived amounts may be subject to surrender charges during the surrender period. 

Following the initial guaranteed period, renewal interest rates are guaranteed for one-year periods.

The death benefit is stated as the greater of contract value or GMSV, and the GMSV is defined as the minimum amount available upon surrender, death, or annuitization.
