If no election is made during this 30-day window, the contract automatically renews for a 5-year renewal guarantee period at the then-current renewal rate, and a 5% surrender charge applies during that renewal period per the contract specifications.

The surrender value equals the account value minus any applicable surrender charges and MVA, but not less than the minimum nonforfeiture value required under Standard Nonforfeiture Law. The MVA can be positive or negative but will never cause the cash surrender value to exceed the account value or fall below the minimum guaranteed value.
