About Me

MikeHi! My name is Mike and I’m the author of Annuity Rates HQ. The reason why I’ve created this site is to provide real information about a complex financial product. Most of the time, the only people we can look at to gather information on investments are advisers or brokers. The main problem with them is that they have a biased point of view; if they convince you that annuities are great, they will make money.

It’s hard to tell you the opposite and see you walk away without making money, isn’t?

I’m Not a Life Insurance Agent – And this is Why You Should Trust Me

You don’t have to fear that I will sell you annuities or other products! And this is probably why you should trust me. I’ve worked over 10 years in the financial industry and occupied several positions specifically in financial planning, investing and lending fields. I have a bachelor degree in Finance-Marketing, a MBA in financial services among other academic titles. I’m happily married with three kids and I know too well how financial planning is important to assure the lifestyle of my family for the years to come.

I already knew a lot about annuities before I’ve built this site but I went dig deeper to get more valuable information and answer your questions about annuities. If I haven’t covered one of your questions, please contact me at thefinancialblogger at gmail dot com and I will answer it.

Why Annuities? Why Now?

I’ve been writing about financial topics on the web since 2008. My main motivation is to educate my readers on various financial topics in order to help them making the best decision for their situation. Each individual has a specific financial situation and specific needs. It’s important you make the right decisions when it comes down to personal finance.

After 2008, the investment world has changed. Safe and high interest rates disappeared as Central Banks dropped them to almost 0. Companies are switching massively from defined pension plan (e.g. guaranteed pension at your retirement) to defined contribution pension plan (you only know how much you put it but there is no guarantee of your investment return at retirement).

Retirement planning as become complex and investment returns on the stock market volatile. To be honest, I still prefer investing in the stock market but that’s probably because I’m in my 30’s and that I sleep well even if I’m losing 15% of my portfolio during a bad year. On the other side, many people don’t want to live through this emotional roller coaster at retirement and prefer to buy piece and receive a steady stream of income. This is why annuities have become so popular these days; because it’s one of the only investment products coming with a guarantee of payment at retirement.

Then again, if you have any questions about annuities, please send me an email and I’ll be more than happy to answer it!
